Popular culture is a reflection of culture at large, including mainstream and marginalized (sub) cultures. Pop culture is shallow insomuch as we perceive it (or fail to perceive it) to be. Pop culture is as shallow as the mainstream allows it to be; it is an accurate gauge of society and culture at large. Popular culture is more than just boy bands and manufactured under-aged barbies. Pop culture is art, pop culture is deviance. At certain moments in the pop culture history, we find anomalies; artists, and others who acknowledge their own currency and their role within the exploitation that the mainstream is built upon. Those who posses this hyperbolic awareness are people who make headlines. They are hated and loved by all. They are intelligent, savvy, brilliant artists who will leave a permanent impression and ultimately change the face of our culture. This blog is dedicated to them.
